8 Great affiliate plugins for WordPress

Creating and managing an affiliate website is a perfect fit for WordPress, mainly due to its ease in writing content and its extensibility due to the enormous plugin ecosystem. Dozens of Affiliate-plugins are available, and searching for ‘affiliate’ in the WordPress plugin-directory results in a listing of 49 pages. And if you think this is a lot, it does not even include the many available premium plugins. But how to know which affiliate-plugin for WordPress is the right one for you?

This, of course, differs in the end-goal you have for your website. Do you want to have an easy and lightweight system to generate clickout-links, or do you want a full-fledged affiliate-network with users, analytics, integrations and more? This is something you have to keep in mind in your final choice.

To help you on your way, here is a list of 8 great affiliate plugins for WordPress. The list is in random order and shows both free and premium plugins.

The AffiliateWP homepage.

Wow. Okay, this premium plugin isn’t very cheap (the lowest plan costs $99 a year), but it offers everything you will ever need to set up an affiliate-powerhouse. It is created by the same developer that brought us the popular Easy Digital Downloads and is filled with high-quality code and features. The plugin allows you to create your own affiliate-network, where users can generate referral-links with ease, view real-time graphs and analytics and much more. Also, it can be easily integrated with many popular plugins such as Contact Form 7, WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, MemberPress, PayPal Buttons and more.

Don’t use this plugin if you only want to add affiliate-links to your pages, since this is not what it’s about here.

Amazon Affiliates for WordPress (AAWP)

The AAWP homepage.

If you are looking for a plugin that fully integrates Amazon’s storefront in WordPress, AAWP is for you. With it, you can easily insert, embed and list all products on Amazon. You can choose to either link to one or multiple products, and display them as a link, a fancy product-box, a list or however you want it. By using this plugin you always get up-to-date pricing and avoid Amazon’s ban-hammer, due to an awesome built-in API. This is a premium plugin starting at €39 for one site, and no free version is available.

The ThirstyAffiliates homepage

This plugin is one of the more famous affiliate-plugins for WordPress and offers both a free and a premium version. With the free version, you can easily create pretty looking (affiliate/referral) links, either shortened or cloaked, view click-stats and create advanced redirects. The PRO version allows for automatic keyword linking, shows advanced statistics (including geolocation), has an automated link health-checker and allows for importing and exporting.

Pretty Links

The PrettyLinks homepage.

Premium plugin Pretty Links looks a lot like ThirstyAffiliates, but does have some small differences. In its core, it offers the easy creation of pretty URLs, different kinds of redirects (301, 302, 307, cloaked, JS, etc.) and automatic keyword linking. Its dashboard is fresh, and offers a good way to categorize and manage your created pretty-links. Advanced features are split-redirect-testing, geographic redirects and timed redirects. It also comes with a social sharing feature out of the box.

The MonsterInsights Premium Dashboard

At first glance, MonsterInsights does not directly look like an obvious affiliate-plugin. However, it has one small feature that makes it really valuable for affiliate-marketeers: it offers a powerful and handy way to track affiliate-clicks on your website. This, combined with the stellar Google Analytics integration, makes it a worthwhile tool for everyone involved with websites, affiliates, and marketing. The free version of the plugin allows for a nice, basic dashboard in your WP-admin and for the tracking of outgoing affiliate-URLs. The premium version basically puts the entirety of Google Analytics inside your WordPress-website and displays its data in a user-friendly advanced dashboard.

It has a lot of features out of the box and has integrations with many popular plugins. Some of the features are real-time reporting, Paypal integration, unlimited ads and creatives for your users, customizable registration sections and translatable on the whole. Nice!
